I did the alternate activity and I didn't know if I was supposed to answer all the questions required for the main activity...but I'll do it anyways..

who you talked with- I talked to my wife.
what you shared and how it went- I shared with my wife some of the things I found most interesting and useful from the learning I did. I shared with her about cyber bullying, online predators, file sharing, and about what personal info to share and not to share, etc. It went well and we made some goals to do better with our own internet safety and also talked about rules/goals that we are going to provide for our kids when they get older.
I completed the i-LEARN online certification program.

What were the most important things I learned from the readings? There were many important things I learned. I felt that the thing I learned most was the importance of sharing personal info online. I have been guilty of probably providing too much info about myself on certain websites. The stories of people being hurt and lives ruined really struck me hard.
How will what I have read influence my actions as a parent and/or teacher of children and youth? I am going to share what I have learned with my kids and I am going to try my best to not put my children into a situation where the internet can harm them. As a teacher it's important to teach basic internet safety skills with them and I think the i learn program would be great for students to look at.
How can I use what I have learned from the reading to have a positive influence on family and friends? I am going to share what I have learned with my family members and friends. Everyone needs to know about the importance of internet safety.
Am I aware of the benefits and dangers children face when online with cyber bullying and online predators? Do I know how to prevent cyberbullying? The most important thing I think is to be aware of our students and to look for signs of cyber bullying. As teachers we need to be understanding of our students behaviors and actions. I feel that the most important tool against cyberbullying and online predators is teaching children and students what to do and not do online. children also need to be able to feel that they can come to parents and other loved ones with concerns or worries and to not be afraid or feel ashamed.
Where can I go for information and resources that can be used to teach internet safety? There are many resources listed that were part of the homework assignment and I would highly recommend the isafety website.
What internet safety issues am I likely to face as a teacher and how will I address them? One of the biggest issues that a teacher might face is intellectual property issues and dealing with copyright, etc. This might be a problem for both students and teachers. I think it's important to teach our students about copyright issues and not stealing others work.
How can I leverage the power of the Internet so students can learn, but in a safe way? Only recommend secure and safe websites for children to visit. Provide lists of websites that students can do research and homework on that are safe, provide accurate information, and are trusted.

Project 2

http://leifarrhenius.wall.fm

  • What did you learn about social networks and the technology in particular that you learned? I had never heard of wall.fm. I think this is a great social media site. I didn't know that I could create forums and in the forums create topics and have discussions. I also didn't know that I could embed youtube videos which I thought was pretty cool. I didn't know there was a site out there where I could have a blog, photos, videos, forum etc. all in the same place.
  • What instructional problems could you use this technology for?As a teacher I could use the blog as a daily or weekly update for students. I could post assignments, links, topics, test dates etc. and also changes to those topics. They could be reminded of tests and other events in the calendar. This would allow the students and parents a recourse to know what is going on at all times in the class. This could almost act as a "blackboard" for high school class rooms. As a class we could upload class photos, create events to put in the calendar, and use the wall.fm site as a class hangout.
  • What are 2-3 activities you could use this technology for in your own teaching? List the instructional standards if you can identify them. I would use the video portion to post videos for my students to look at. I could post a health video every week on a topic we are discussing in class to use as another recourse and have students do an assignment on the project. I also like the idea of using the forum for students to discuss, share, and ask questions on class topics, assignments, and up coming tests. If I was teaching different classes, I would create groups so the students could join their particular class group.

Project 1

Here are two podcasts I made about post workout recovery-

http://audioboo.fm/boos/535719-recovery-techniques-for-post-workout-pain-part-i#t=2m28s

RECOVERY TECHNIQUES FOR POST WORKOUT PAIN Part I (mp3)

http://audioboo.fm/boos/535735-recovery-techniques-for-post-workout-pain-part-ii

RECOVERY TECHNIQUES FOR POST WORKOUT PAIN Part II (mp3)

I made these podcasts as a recourse for students or a companion lecture to a topic I could be discussing or lecturing about in class. I chose to do a topic that might not be too important to talk about in a class lecture but still important for students to know.

  • What did you learn about Pod casting (or whatever technology you learned)?I have never used or listened to a podcast before. I didn't even really know what a podcast was. So everything I learned about pod casting was totally new to me. I learned that I could record my voice and put it online for people. I learned that I could subscribe to other podcasts and receive updates. I learned that I could provide podcasts to my students and use it as a great teaching recourse. I had never heard of audioboo and I learned that that website is a great recourse to record podcasts. I learned that I could record pod casts on my computer but also on other devices such as i phones, i pods, and other portable devices. I think it's awesome that people can subscribe to users and search for tons of different topics to listen to. I didn't know that there were so many podcasts that deal with teaching and learning. I also learned that this could be a great recourse for teaching.
  • What instructional problems could you use this technology for? If there is a blind student in our class this could be a great recourse (along with others) that would allow the student to stay caught up on material and still learn the same material the other students are learning. This could also be a great way to keep students up to date weekly or daily on topics or assignments, and as a reminder for homework and tests.
  • What are 2-3 activities you could use this technology for in your own teaching? Being a health teacher, I would love to share weekly or daily health tips I find interesting with my students that I might not teach them about in class or test them on. Also I would like my students to subscribe to my podcasts so they could listen to updates on my podcasts. I could update them on changes to the syllabus, lectures and tell them any announcements I might have. If I forgot to mention some material in class this is important I could teach it to them in podcasts. It is a great supplement to classroom teaching.

copyright assignment

This video is professionally done by the church. The church owns rights to the music, video, and images shown in the movie. This is also posted on the church's official YouTube channel. It would be unlawful for someone to re-post this video online, claiming ownership or editing out the copyright details of the movie.

This video also looks professionally done. The owner of the YouTube channel is the the creator of the movie. She has her website posted and links to other info about her. There really isn't anything that seems to be in violation of copyright laws. There is some music played but it is only clips of a song and less than 10% of the original soundtrack. Also, the teacher probably created the caricature of herself or bought the image and then owns the rights to it. There is a small picture of a Chinese pagoda shown in the video that she doesn't source but I don't know if it's that big of a deal.

The next two videos are actually movies that I have made and posted on YouTube. On both I broke quite a few copyright laws. The first movie I used two songs that I didn't source or have the rights to, and also posted audio from a copyrighted movie. YouTube allows users to use selected songs for movies that don't break copyright laws. I should use those songs provided. The second movie has video I filmed from a Swedish TV program that obviously is copyrighted. I should really never do this again and will work on changing these movies so they follow copyright guidelines.

Class Website

Here is the link to my class website

https://sites.google.com/site/arrheniushealth/

I tried to put as much information on the courses as possible but without going too overboard. I thought it would be nice to provide a link to the school's website and also contact info for the school. I put a daily health tip and yahoo news health feed as a recourse for the students and also in one of the course tools sections there is a calorie calculator for the advanced students.

Class Website

This is my first time creating a google site....hope it all works out. I will post the link soon!
